Art Dome

Just wanted to share a video that is up on Minnesota Stories about an artist named David Hamlow. David has created an inspiring piece of art: a dome created entirely of packing materials of products that he has consumed. David explains that:

"It's important to me that people understand that I consumed it [the products] all myself....the people coming in to see the work are having a similar experience...I hope they make the connection that their own consumption would be a similar amount of stuff and to question that."

In the video, David provides a lot of interesting reasons for choosing to build a dome for his project.  What's interesting to me is that this piece forces its viewers to confront their own consumptive patterns, while at the same time, perhaps unconsciously, provides a small solution.  The Dome Home uses 60% less material than a traditional structure of a similar sizes and also use 30% less energy to heat and cool it.  Click here to watch the video on Minnesota Stories
